Glasshouse Exhibition: Private View – Friday 3 October 6-9pm, RSVP (via website/ Instagram).
Upper Floor Studio, 1-3 Hawthorn Road, Gosforth NE3 4DE.
Subtropical botanic gardens have provided a source for drawing for the last 10 years, where Charlotte Johnston has taken inspiration from the shapes, physical rhythms and structures found in nature, combined with man-made glass structures. Specialising in observational drawings, these studies are taken back to the studio and are a re-ordering of her experiences of working outside, where she makes colourful abstracted paintings.
The Glasshouse exhibition features winter gardens; Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh butterfly house, Dublin, Kibble Palace Glasgow, Sunderland and Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Johnston studied Fine Art Painting BA (Hons) at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen and attended the Drawing Year, Royal Drawing School, London.
The show will open to the public on Saturday 4th October – Saturday 20th December, open to view Thursday – Sunday.
