A new chapter is beginning on Hebburn’s waterfront, with the launch of The Moorings nine detached, four-bedroom riverside homes forming the first residential phase of the Kelly’s Wharf masterplan.
Available from £550,000, these contemporary homes bring together generous living spaces, carefully selected interiors and private balconies overlooking the River Tyne. Plots 1–3 will be available to reserve from Friday 30 October 2026, with completion expected in February 2027.
For buyers, this is the first opportunity to become part of a new waterfront neighbourhood on a site with a remarkable story.
A waterfront with history
The former Hawthorn Leslie Shipyard helped shape both Hebburn and the wider region. Established by Andrew Leslie in the 1850s, the yard attracted skilled workers and their families, creating a community whose identity remains closely connected to the river.
It went on to build naval vessels during both World Wars and passenger ships for P&O during the growth of ocean travel in the 1920s. By the Second World War, the company employed more than 4,000 people.
Today, Kelly’s Wharf begins the site’s next chapter, with The Moorings introducing homes to a stretch of waterfront once defined by shipbuilding, engineering and craftsmanship.

Homes shaped by the river
The architecture takes a considered approach to its setting. Warm buff brickwork, gabled rooflines and understated grey detailing give the homes a distinctive character, while generous glazing makes the most of their riverside position.
Each home extends across three floors, providing approximately 1,690 sq ft of accommodation. On the ground floor, an open-plan kitchen and living area opens towards a private garden, while a separate dining room offers space for entertaining or family meals.
The first-floor riverside lounge is a particular highlight. Opening onto a private glass-fronted balcony, it provides an elevated outlook across the Tyne: somewhere to enjoy a morning coffee, watch the river’s changing activity or settle in for the evening.
Four bedrooms are arranged across the upper floors, including two with en-suite facilities, alongside a family bathroom.
Considered details throughout
Kitchens feature Porcelanosa cabinetry, KRION worktops and Siemens appliances, complemented by Porcelanosa and Noken bathroom fittings.
Practical features include dedicated utility provision, private parking, EV charging for two cars per home and roof-integrated solar panels. An automatic gated entrance completes the development.
Beyond the doorstep, Hebburn’s shops, schools and community facilities sit alongside established riverside walks, with Metro connections providing access to Newcastle and South Shields.
With just nine homes available, The Moorings offers an opportunity to be part of Kelly’s Wharf from the beginning.
