For this Coastal edition of SY Edition, we are recommending to you our favourite beaches across the North East of England…
Bamburgh
With its stunning sand dunes and famous castle, it is no wonder that this iconic beach was named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world in 2022!
Bamburgh beach stretches for miles and is ideal for those looking to surf, swim, or if you fancy a walk along the beach into Seahouses to the south or to Stag Rocks to the north.
Of course, the most breathtaking part of Bamburgh beach is the castle dominating the skyline.
You also can’t visit Bamburgh Beach without stopping in the village centre for something to eat in one of its many pubs and cafes.
Embleton
A long stretch of golden sand overlooked by the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, Embleton Bay is one of the most unpopulated beaches on the coast and offers one of the safest beaches for swimming in the UK.
Lying approximately ½ a mile down a country lane from the village of Embleton, this magnificent beach is perfect for those who love walking, with a 7 mile round walk taking in Craster and Beadnell, and is also perfect for nature lovers with its wide rock pools to admire the sea life or seabirds on the nearby cliffs.
Longsands Beach
This blue-flag winning beach is popular for many reasons but we love it for its reputation as a surf destination and for the fabulous restaurants located on the beach itself and in Tynemouth village!
Overlooked by the famous Tynemouth Priory & Castle, Longsands is ideal for a family day out being only a 20 minute trip from Newcastle City Centre and offering the Blue Reef Aquarium, as well as surfing and paddle board lessons.
Sandhaven
In 2022, Sandhaven beach claimed the Sunday Times Beach of the Year title and we can see why, with its golden sands and blue sea stretching out to the horizon, along with its dramatic backdrop of Trow Rocks and Leas to the south.
There is no shortage of coastal entertainment at Sandhaven, with thrilling watersports, adventure golf, captivating parades, and regular live music, as well as providing the seaside funfair of Ocean Beach Pleasure Park.
If you’re looking for a weekend getaway with an abundance of activities, why not visit Sandhaven?!
Beadnell
A popular location for holiday makers, Beadnell Bay is a wide sandy beach that curves around the bay forming a natural harbour and is the perfect place for bracing coastal walks at any time of year.
With the harbour lying to the north end of the bay, the only west facing harbour on the eastern coast, there is the opportunity for sailing, kite surfing, and visiting the famous Farne Islands with its Atlantic Grey Seals, puffins, and many species of seabird.
Beadnell village itself offers a good selection of pubs, cafes, and restaurants.
Alnmouth
Located at the mouth of the River Aln is the stunning beach of Alnmouth, offering the perfect place for a family picnic, building sandcastles, or, if the weather allows, sunbathing and relaxation.
Take a walk along the beach on the Northumberland Coastal Path, via bike on the Coast and Castles cycle route, or even on horseback to truly appreciate the beauty along this Northumberland Coastline.
Backed by the vast expanse of dunes, there is a wealth of birds and wildlife to be seen and as part of Northumberland’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the scenery won’t disappoint either.
