Hundreds of us drive past every day, but the regeneration and development of Regent Centre has gone somewhat under the radar.
Regent Centre has always been regarded as a local enterprise hub. Construction began by Northern British Properties in 1970 and at the time of its completion in the early 1980’s, it was Europe’s largest office complex. It has been home to many of the North East’s largest employers and Virgin Money still have their corporate headquarters there. However, we are now seeing a transformation of the location into a highly sought-after spot for apartment living. The nature of the 1970’s architectural style, with large windows and high ceilings, creates enviable space and light and is being brought up to modern specification with the addition of fibre optic broadband, low energy heating and stunning contemporary kitchens and bathrooms. Some of the apartments also feature balconies which are positioned to maximise views.
The former DVLA building, formerly known as Eagle Star House, will soon be unveiled fully as Regents Plaza, an iconic residential scheme which will change the Gosforth landscape as the scheme nears completion and the fantastic façade can be seen once the scaffolding is removed this winter.
This luxury development of one, two and three bedroom apartments benefits from fabulous panoramic views up to 12 stories high, providing world-class apartment living. The six duplex penthouse apartments provide quite possibly the best view in Gosforth.
Regents Plaza has been expertly developed by the Morton Group, who have truly invested in the resurgence of Regent Centre; their corporate headquarters are situated in Arden House. There is a swanky “show floor” of 6 uber modern apartments now available to view, showcasing the range of available internal layouts as well as high quality internal fittings.
Sanderson Young are delighted to have been appointed as sales agents for the development and are keen to rebrand this location of Gosforth as “Regents Village”. Duncan Young, Chairman of Sanderson Young, comments “This location is still very much considered an office complex, however something very exciting is happening within Regents Centre as residential apartments become available for the first time. The range of facilities within walking distance are incredible; Marks and Spencer’s Food Hall, the Metro interchange and all the pubs, bars and restaurants of the High Street make it a fantastic residential destination, particularly for young professional buyers and downsizers looking for everything on their doorstep”.
The Omnia group, who are the current owner-developers of Regent Centre, are also busy transforming some of the units into apartments for the private rental sector. Northumbria House is complete and offers one and two bedroom apartments available now, and Eldon House is currently being renovated by The Morton Group’s construction arm Kapex. This will result in over 300 residents within Regent’s Village and will very much create a new community.
This community will also be able to take advantage of Gosforth pool and gym, the Gosforth Civic Theatre and independent hairdressers, cafés and physiotherapy and Pilates studio.
This new destination is emerging, and it is exciting to see the creation of a new place to live in one of the most regarded residential areas within the North East.
