Guide price £675,000

Key Features

  • Magnificent seven bedroom family home
  • Extensively refurbished to a high specification
  • Great deal of style and character
  • Lovely open aspect to the rear

Fellows House was originally built in 1901 and occupies a fabulous position in Old Ryton Village. The property has a great deal of character and style, and was built as a local coaching inn and public house known as “The Jolly Fellows”; it stands on the former site of “Three Jolly Lads” which was demolished in the late 1890s. The property traded as “The Jolly Fellows” until 2009/2010 when it closed down.

The current owners purchased the property more recently and have carried out extensive renovation, refurbishment, and significant improvements to create a lovely home, which enjoys such a beautiful position within the village centre.

The house has a prominent position set back from Elvaston Road, which is a local access road for two or three houses overlooking the mature green nearby and is surrounded at the rear by the local estate owner’s farm and woodland, creating a particularly pleasant backdrop.

To one side of the property a fabulous large garage and workshop has been created, as well as a hardstanding area and terrace which extends to the rear of the house to provide a beautiful patio and alfresco dining area, where the afternoon and evening sunshine in the summer months can be fully enjoyed. Beneath this terrace is a large cellar/basement offering great development potential to create further living/reception space.

The house is built in a traditional Tudor style and has fabulous wooden lattice woodwork on the front elevation, which complements the pantile roof and the beautiful brickwork and is surrounded by stone lintels and sills. The double bay elevation on its principal southern fascia is highly impressive, both at ground and first floor, and the windows give a great deal of natural light to the reception rooms and bedrooms above.

To the opposite side of “Fellows House”, a building plot of 0.25 acres has been created and there is the potential to build one luxury dwelling; this plot is to be sold separately and divided from the main house. This undoubtedly will complement the terrace gardens that lie to the north and eastern elevation of the property and complete what is already a very attractive frontage to Elvaston Road.

The owners have been very successful in the creation of this magnificent home, which enjoys high ceilings, welcoming large reception rooms and lovely entertainment areas.  The building has been lovingly restored and now creates a seven bedroom family house, with parking for three or four cars, as well as a newly built garage and workshop (28” x 12”).

Fellows House has been refurbished to a high specification throughout, with new rewiring, plumbing, double glazed windows, three separate gas central heating boilers, oak internal doors, quality kitchen and bathrooms, with great attention to detail in every aspect of the building both internally and externally.

The house enjoys a lovely open aspect at the rear over the adjacent mature woodland, and is currently further undergoing landscaping works to its rear garden to create lovely external areas.

Ryton has always been a very popular local village within South Tyneside and enjoys good accessibility via local road networks into the Tyne Valley to the west, to Corbridge and Hexham, as well as to the Team Valley and Metro Centre to the east via the Western Bypass, which runs around Newcastle and Tyneside. The village is represented by a number of lovely detached high quality homes, of which this is undoubtedly one of its finest.

Local amenities include; lovely shopping facilities, good golf courses nearby, and a road and rail network supporting the Newcastle to Hexham connections.

This is a unique and very special family home in a great setting, for which viewing is strongly recommended.
