Northumberland - Houses, Property and Homes to Rent and Buy

Northumberland is a very popular place for peole looking to rent or buy, we have plenty of properties throughout the Northumberland area so whether you are looking for a house to buy or to rent a home, Sanderson Young will help you throughout the process. England's most rural county is a large triangle with its base following the river Tyne and the apex 100 miles north at Berwick. NorthhumberWithin this triangle, Northumberland is like England in miniature. The South East is the most populous area whilst the central heart of the county is blessed with rolling farmland. In the east are the long sandy beaches of the coast and in the north and west are the spectacular Cheviot Hills in the Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Homes, Houses and Properties for sale or rent within the Northumberland, North East Area

The homes in Northumberland represent the diverse character of the county's different regions. In the South East are new towns like Cramlington and Killingworth and older, former mining communities like Bedlington, Ashington and Blyth. Though these towns suffered from the collapse of the North East's coal industry, they are slowly reinventing themselves for the 21st Century and property here can represent extraordinary value for money.

Besides the existing housing stock, South East Northumberland has seen enormous recent investment in housing. There are small, quality conversions of redundant agricultural and industrial buildings and Newcastle Great Park, a 'new village' of nearly 3,000 homes, just over the Newcastle City boundary.

Besides new developments, Northumberland boasts a number of attractive market towns with plenty of period property of outstanding character. Towns such as Hexham and Rothbury in the west, Morpeth in the centre and Alnwick, Wooler and Berwick in the North regularly win accolades as the 'best place to live'.

Along the east coast Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth castles guard the picturesque fishing villages of Seahouses, Craster and Alnmouth. The picture postcard locations, beautiful beaches, and romantic history (Bamburgh is the legendary home of Sir Lancelot) mean the coast is always popular with second as well as principle home owners.

Inland, the Pennines gradually merge with the Cheviot Hills on the Scottish Border yet despite this natural barrier, centuries of Anglo-Scots warfare depopulated the area. North Northumberland is still sparsely inhabited but villages like Kielder, Harbottle, Holystone and Ingram are discovering a new life as gateways to Northumberland's spectacular, unspoiled uplands.

In these rural areas there are some truly beautiful homes. Look in Northumberland's secret dales, like Coquetdale, Redesdale and the North Tyne Valley to find cosy farmhouses, delightful cottages with fabulous views and even small country estates for those who love country sports.
